Astern and Frosted double the excitement at Darley
THERE is always an air of excitement at studs when a highly regarded stallion has his first progeny to the sales and there is a double dose of it at Darley with Astern (Medaglia d’Oro (USA)-Essaouira by Exceed and Excel) and Frosted (USA) (Tapit-Fast Cookie by Deputy Minister) due to have debut crop members head through the ring at the Magic Millions National Weanling Sale.
Darley’s head of sales Alastair Pulford is one of many excited to see how the youngsters by each highly rated stallion are received, confident on the back of the many rave reviews from breeders.
“Everyone who has an Astern or a Frosted tells us they have a good one,” he said, also happily reporting that Godolphin has a number of quality foals of its own. “Our best foal at Northwood for example is a Frosted, he is an absolute beauty.”
A triple Gr.1-winning son of champion sire and A.P. Indy grandson Tapit (117 stakes winners), Frosted has been well supported in Victoria, the eye-catching grey serving 183 mares in his first two seasons. His first crop of weanlings are the sons and daughters of a lovely group of mares including the stakes winners Miss Steele, Fuchsia Bandana, Like It Is, Obsequious, Quidnunc, Princess Gisella, Antarctic Miss, Applegate, Very Discreet, Whateverwhenever and Serenely Discreet. Also amongst his first harem were the dams of the stakes winners Santa Ana Lane, Le Romain, Crown Prosecutor, Waging War, Gamblin’ Guru, Ringerdingding, Meteoroid, Charlevoix, Viridine, Nediym’s Glow, Red Colossus, Cavaloce, Dodging Bullets and Willow Creek.
